If you’re looking for deck and patio decor ideas for your outdoor living space, here are some creative and stylish decorating ideas. I love decorating my deck to make it look pretty, but also to make it cozy and relaxing for outdoor lounging.
I am fortunate enough to have two outdoor living spaces; a deck and a three-season porch. Good thing, because depending on New England weather, it’s nice to have options.
It’s also great for entertaining as not everyone likes to sit outdoors all day and so there’s always the enclosed porch area. With that said, I freely move my outdoor furniture from one area to the other, depending on what we happen to be doing.
On sunny days when we need more seating on the deck, this works perfectly. But just to show you that I do interchange furniture between the deck and screened-in sun porch, here’s a picture of my furniture being used inside the sun porch.
Yes! One of my favorite deck and patio decor ideas is Interchanging furniture and decor between my two outdoor living spaces.
To get more bright colors into this room without painting it, I found this rug on Amazon, which also compliments the outdoor deck furniture. I’m seriously considering getting a second one for the deck!
Bright and colorful outdoor furniture and beachy accents help create a resort feeling
I wanted the color aqua for my outdoor deck furnishings because the color just reminds me of the beach resort. Even when I’m using the dark tan conversation pit seating outside, by layering those pieces with bright pillows, they work with the color theme.
But my light teal furniture did not start out this color. This metal table and chairs (not shown here), were picked up by my husband at a tag sale for about $45.
The chairs were a dark hunter green and the table looked like someone try to paint it another color. I must say, I hesitated to keep them until he agreed to paint them this color. The color is actually called “Ocean Mist” by Rustoleum.
Shown below are the four chairs that come with the table and were painted to match. Then we added seat cushions from Lowes. And yes they match the ones that we have on our new-used patio bench.
I fell in love with these ocean-themed pillow covers to give our outdoor living space a beachy, coastal feel.
In 2022 my husband did it again and showed up with a hunter-green patio bench that he found at another tag sale. It was just a metal frame without cushions, and so just like the patio table set, we painted it “Ocean Mist” and purchased three high-back cushions for it at Lowes for $39 each. So here is our new-used patio bench, all ready to relax on.
Create a cozy deck for laidback outdoor living
For me, finding decor to create a cozy deck for laidback living starts with comfort. And home is a place where you want to unwind and relax. Think about the things that make you happy and bring them to your outdoor space.
If you like board games, set up a place to play them on your deck. If you like music, put some speakers on your deck to listen to your favorite artists. Some people like to relax with a good book or movie, so consider where on your deck you can have enough shade to read or watch TV.
Comfortable outdoor seating areas with lots of comfy throw pillows are a great way to go for informal, laidback outdoor living.
Deck and patio decor ideas to create a relaxing outdoor space
Here’s a small table for two we set up on our deck that my hubby and I spend lots of time at. Whether we want to have some grilled food, cocktails, or just play a few games of backgammon, this is our outdoor place where we love to chat and unwind.
When serving food and drinks outdoors, you can never have enough serving trays.
Deck and Patio Decor Ideas: Colorful Adirondack chairs
Who doesn’t love to relax and sit back in an outdoor Adirondack chair, while soaking up some sun on the deck or patio? As you can see, I have two aqua blue ones to match our outdoor space, and then there’s this chair.
So, I have to talk about this outdoor Adirondack chair. It’s a chair I won a few years ago at a friend’s Jimmy Buffet-themed picnic, and so we still use it as it has lots of good memories. This is the one thing I add to my outdoor decor with exception as it doesn’t match anything else, but I give it its own little corner on the deck so we enjoy can it!
One of my favorite things about our deck is the stone-look post surrounds that we added to each end of the deck when we built it. It just adds a little more character to the deck without the expense of doing real stonework. Plus they hold up well over the years – even though all of our heavy snow seasons. But I try not to think about that when I’m sitting out here.
Deck and patio decor Ideas – using plants and potted trees
When it comes to deck and patio decor ideas for outdoor living spaces, plants bring your space to life. A quick way to add color to your deck, porch, or patio is to add a potted arrangement like this one.
Potted trees add greenery to outdoor living spaces and can also provide natural privacy. Here is our lemon tree that my husband started from a seed a few years back. It lives indoors during the winter, but we bring it outdoors onto the deck every summer so it can sprout new growth.
I’ve had a pair of outdoor brass swans for a while now, and these cranes are the closest thing I’ve seen that are similar. Brass garden ornaments do get a bit dull and tarnished over the years, but they’re still too pretty to get rid of.
An easy deck patio decor idea is to bring some of the indoors outdoors. Use decor items like candles and faux flowers. Add creature comforts like comfy pillows. Don’t be afraid to mix things up with things you already own – it will save you money!
Whether it’s cooking out, socializing, or just lounging, it’s a treat to enjoy being outside in your own outdoor living space – with all the comforts of home.
If you’re looking for a similar outdoor metal table in a pretty aqua color, that you don’t have to spray paint, I found this one at Wayfair.
